January 30th. Wednesday
Everytime I start to travel, I get an urge to write it down. The only time I have ever done it, was costa rica… and I sort of put that up on the web… but basically I never showed it to anyone to read. Though when I did read it, it was super funny.
Anyways - I’ll take a stab again this time.
Jan 30th. Woke up… breakfast at hamburger mary’s, did some work, cleaned my house, worked Ava at Burnout a few times, and then it was time to goooo.
Awesome - this is fantastic. Gives some competition for photo apps like iPhoto.
I am currently working on writing some interaction/high level patterns for social systems with Andrew Simpson. These will serve as base content for a wiki of such patterns that we will be launching as we develop Rilli. These patterns are part of what Rilli is based on.
My mother has worked at Vancity for 13 years. She started out as a human cash machine, and quickly worked her way up to one bad ass bank manager. Her office is decked out with awards like freakin wallpaper, she makes banking so bloody easy for me. Every time I walk into her branch, you can tell her co-workers have immense respect for her, and I’m very proud of her. Plus, I can always pull out the line “Do you know who I AM?! Do you know who my mother is?!”, if anyone gives me shit.
When I was a kid, I hated having a Vancity bank account. There were practically no branches or bank machines that didn’t charge me a buck so I could take out 5. Paying a buck when you only had 5 to take out really hurt. However, things have changed. I now have more then 5 bucks in my bank account, I rarely use cash, and Vancity has matured into a company with values and actions similar to what I hope to build Rilli on.
Despite the fact that I was recently beginning to think Facebook may be doing some new and semi-useful and meaningful interactions through their site. I have been convinced back to my old belief, which is that Facebook in many ways is still just a more usable mySpace. Allow me to show you exhibit A.
I found this article called 10 Future Web Trends on Pixel Surgeon, it is an article written by someone named Richard MacManus. I found it so ridiculous, and I am so extremely cranky because of pain in my jaw (no idea what it is yet), that I decided to post about it.
This guy, has the incredible insight to predict web trends for the next TEN YEARS. Right. Let’s just think about where the web was 10 years ago. Even 2 or 3 years would be pushing it in my opinion. Then to top that off, he goes on to list 10 current/fairly-established/old trends around today. And these are the trends of the “next decade”. I mean, sure, some of them are just emerging and will continue to develop over time. But I was expecting at least one or two ideas I hadn’t heard of or kinds of services which I am not ALREADY USING. The only one that has any relevance to the title of the article is perhaps number 9 “International Web”. Because it will take some time for developing nations and some governments to open up access and all that.
Still, next decade my ass.
Just checking it out.
Someone from Såo Paulo, Brazil has created somewhat of a clone of my Flickr account - with 2 of my sets… and even my exact profile. No idea why - it’s quite strange. I’ve talked to the good people at Flickr and it seems that they will take care of it.

“Shiira is a web browser based on Web Kit and written in Cocoa. The goal of the Shiira Project is to create a browser that is better and more useful than Safari. All source code used in this software is publicly available.”
I’ve been using it for a few days. I love it. Check it out.
This weekend I was reading 2007 Burton Catalog. I was reading the ladies section because I am doing some product design for women lately, and I wanted to poke around for some inspiration for patterns and stuff.
Finally I have “finished” my new portfolio. The update was mostly to allow me keep a blog, as well finally have an easy to update and searchable portfolio. I hope to keep from making a new one for the next few years. But I always say that. There are some more tweeks and spacing issues to be worked out over the next week. But for the sake of my sanity, I needed to cough this up now.
